George I. Sanchez (GIS) Charter High School is proud to have been named an Early College school by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. We welcome every student enrolled at GIS to join in on the benefits of Early College.
The Early College Program (ECP) is designed so that students can earn both a high school diploma and up to two years of college credit toward a Bachelor's degree-all at the same time. Students can choose between earning an Associates degree at Houston Community College or completing their basics and transferring the credits over to a 4-year University. Through our partnership with Houston Community College, GIS is able to provide transferable college credits that enable a student to get ahead both in high school and in college. All college tuition, fees, and books are supplied free to the student. Unlike other schools in which a student must pay for dual credit classes, at GIS, Early College provides students up to 60 college hours free of charge.
Our goal is to find committed students who are willing to challenge themselves in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum that leads them to successfully complete their high school and college education.
By allowing students to begin their college coursework as early as 9th grade, students are able to complete their higher education goals at a faster rate and are also better prepared to handle the stresses of time, money, and being "college ready" once they graduate from high school.
Students and parents interested in Early College should contact their school counselor at 713-967-6700.
