George I. Sanchez Superintendent Message

George I. Sanchez (GIS) Charter High School is a part of the educational component of the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA).
Founded in 1973. GIS was the first privately accredited school for dropouts in Texas and it is recognized as one of the oldest alternative schools in the country.

Over the years, GIS has been recognized as a leader in educating Texas youth. Former President George W. Bush, Former Vice President Al Gore and Texas Governor Rick Perry have praised GIS for its success with “at-risk” youth, while Hispanic Magazine recognized GIS as one of its 1997 “Five Schools of Excellence.”

At George I. Sanchez, our faculty and staff take special care in insuring that all students reach their fullest potential and that no student is left behind. We believe every student is allowed a second chance. This educational concept has been the spirit of Sanchez since 1973.
