Our Mission

AAMA (The Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans) is committed to advancing the lives of at-risk and disadvantaged youth and families through an array of innovative programs of excellence in the areas of Education and Health and Human Services.

AAMA – Inspiring Latinos Through Education

Since our founding in 1970, AAMA has been a leader helping youth and adults in Houston, San Antonio, and the Rio Grande Valley advance their dreams through innovative education, health and social services programs.

We demonstrate our commitment through programs that are:

  • giving another chance to high school drop-outs who had no other educational alternatives.
  • building brighter futures for immigrant adults through literacy and citizenship courses.
  • teaching young people how to resist a culture of drugs and gangs.
  • providing a safe haven and hope for homeless teens.
  • assisting drug-dependent adults in overcoming addiction and returning to productive lives.
  • speaking up for the needs of Mexican Americans and other Spanish-speaking immigrants.

For 40 years, people of vision, passion and dedication have given AAMA its strength – the people who founded the organization, the people who provided leadership and those who sustained it with financial support. Because of their efforts, AAMA today is ranked as the 14th largest Hispanic non-profit in the nation, and serving more than 30,000 people each year. We are proud of our accomplishments; yet, as the Hispanic population soars in Houston and across Texas, AAMA’s vision, leadership and services are more important than ever. We continually renew our commitment to inspiring Latinos through education.
